Pridnestrovie to impose state control over sugar prices since 4 July

The maximum retail and wholesale mark-on for sugar will be fixed at 15%

Tiraspol, 29 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovie imposes state control over sugar prices since 4 July, the chairman of the Antimonopoly and Price Committee, Vitaly Ulitks, told Novosti Pridnestrovia.

The maximum wholesale mark-on will be fixed at 15% of acquisition price. The maximum retail mark-on will be fixed at 15% of wholesale price, or 20% of acquisition price provided the enterprise has imported this product to the PMR on its own.

Granulated sugar, in compliance with the amendments to the law «On prices and price formation» adopted on 17 May, was included in the list of products whose prices can be restricted by the government in case they cost higher in Pridnestrovie than in Moldova and Ukraine.

Monitoring conducted by the committee on 2 June has showed that the price for granulated sugar in Sheriff supermarkets are 1.33 roubles higher than in Ukraine and 0.39 roubles higher than in Moldova.

Sugar prices are also higher in Tiraspol's Fourchette and Veteran shops, Bendery's Prague and Rybnitsa's Baikal.

According to Vitaly Ulitka, the committee has ascertained that today retail outlets are selling granulated sugar in the PMR with 50% mark-on, which is why the measures taken by the committee must considerably reduce its ultimate price. The maximum mark-on restrictions will be in effect until 31 December 2016.

«As of today, according to our information, one of major importers has already reduce the price in its retail chain by 0.2 roubles — from 8 to 7.80 roubles. But I think it is still insufficient, moreover, we know where sugar is purchased and at which price. We are going to continue conducting monthly monitoring of sugar producer prices in Ukraine and Moldova and price changes with regard to global trends, and consequently, we together with the SCC are going to examine the acquisition prices of the goods which are exported to the republic for making a preliminary analysis of mark-on applied by sugar importers," said the committee chairman.

He added, in the meantime, that both Ukraine and Moldova have imposed control over granulated sugar prices. In Moldova the maximum mark-on for sugar is 20%, and in Ukraine 15%.
