Tiraspol, 23 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Despite the lack of foreign currency receipts in Pridnestrovie, the authorities will not give way to a large-scale food crisis, the president said, answering journalists' question on live TV. «There will be no hunger in Pridnestrovie. The authorities will do their best to prevent it," said the president.
At the same time, according to the head of state, the currency crisis, used by some media outlets to instigate from time to time discussions about the upcoming hunger, could have been overcome.
«Solution variants were proposed back in early May, were discussed at Security Council and State Council meetings, but currency regulation lies within the jurisdiction of the PRB and the Supreme Council," noted Yevgeny Shevchuk.
According to the president, had these decisions been made in a proper time, we could have avoided the current economic situation. The head of state underscored, at the same time, that despite of allegations that the crisis is hand-made, figures show that the currency demand still exceeds the supply, which leads to a shadow currency market.
«There is a currency imbalance. This is demonstrated the PRB's currency biddings. The central bank issues daily reports on the amount of receipts, and if the difference between the receipts and bids is one to ten, it is clear foreign currency is scarce," said the president.
Yevgeny Shevchuk specially underscored that despite the fact that big retail chains objectively lack foreign currency for importing goods, all currency supply cannot be allocated to one entity only. «The economy and state reserves cannot take into account only one chain. Foreign currency must be sufficient to satisfy the demand of all economic entities that have roubles on their accounts. They must have an opportunity to convert them any time into the foreign currency they are in need of," concluded the president.
