Moldova denies inspection of its armed forces introduced into Security Zone

Bendery, 2 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. On 1 June the Pridnestrovian side proposed that military observers go to Vadul lui Vodă to inspect Moldova's unit deployed in the Security Zone without prior coordination, but was denied.

This is what Oleg Belyakov, Pridnestrovie's co-chair to the JCC, told journalists. He noted that the governing body of the peacekeeping operation must control the number of servicemen and their service weapons.

«It was pointed out that seven policemen already work there and have service weapons. But we know perfectly well there is a deployment mechanism, they should have been introduced under military observers' control, and they had to register their weapons with the Joint Military Command, which has not been done. We also know that 30 more servicemen, 5 vehicles and other hardware are supposed to be introduced to reinforce the police unit since 1 June. It is necessary to settle the weapon issues, to identify who these servicemen are and determine the regime of their service. This is what military observers should find out," said Oleg Belyakov.

He also noted that the Moldovan side had deliberately refused to register weapons with the JMC.

«In other words, we are not informed about the number and types of weapons these units have. Of course, this situation represents danger," said Oleg Belyakov.
