Tiraspol, 30 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. In case of Tiraspol's bread-baking factory's stoppage or a reduction in production output, its niche in the domestic market may be occupied by the state-run bakery Bendersky Khleb [Bendery's Bread], the director of Bendery's factory, Lyudmila Chaikovskaya, said in an interview with journalists.

It has been recently announced that in connection with the foreign exchange crisis, Tiraspol's bakery may stop buying raw materials (salt and yeast) abroad, and the factory's current stock is only sufficient for several weeks.

«We, of course, will replenish the amounts Tiraspol will fail to supply," Lyudnila Chaikovskaya commented on the situation. «But I think there is no evidence Tiraspol's factory may stop today. Seems to me, Viktor Pavlovich (director of Tirapol's bakery) is exaggerating. This is a spontaneous statement, in my opinion," she added.

According to the head of Bendersky Khleb, their enterprise is not experiencing any difficulties with the supply of raw stuff and maintains its output at last year's level.

Lyudmila Chaikovskaya also emphasised that the enterprise is ready to increase the production of bread and confectioneries, but do not do it due to production distribution problems. In particular, this refers to the lack of access to the country's biggest retail chain.

«Many people phone and ask why our products are not sold in Sheriff supermarkets where they make purchases. They have to buy Tiraspol bread. I'd like to request the holding's management one more time, as they've been recently propagandising their cooperation with local manufacturers, to invite us on your own because you do not answer our letters," she said.

Local manufacturers would also benefit from an increase in import duties on pastry and confectionery, according to Chaikovskaya. «Today we are seeking ways of recovering the country's economy, seeking work for our enterprises. Why can't we place barriers to these goods? This is the work for our factory, for Tiraspol's and Rybnitsa's bakeries. The goods we can produce are imported from abroad," said the director of Bendersky Khleb.

According to Chaikovskaya, introducing protecting duties would allow local manufacturers to occupy a greater share of the PMR's domestic market, which means that an increase in domestic production output would entail a drop in cost and retail prices.
