Russian experts: Russia consolidating its positions in Pridnestrovie amid Nato threats

Tiraspol, 12 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. On 9 May 2016 the PMR held the first joint Russian-Pridnestrovian military parade, while Nato's armoured vehicles passed along the streets of Moldovan cities. According to Russian military experts, the latest events show that our region is turning into an arena of geopolitical confrontation.

«There are two dangerous aspects here. First, it is not good when two armed forces which are in conflict are approaching each other. This is rather dangerous because the approach of such military fists will inevitably cause sparkles, especially in a region like that. Second, we all realise that Nato is equipping and training the Moldovan army, aiming it at Pridnestrovians and Russia. This seriously smells of powder," Komsomolskaya Pravda military commentator Viktor Baranets said in an interview with Novosti Pridnestrovya.

He underscored that Russia is continuing to consolidate its positions in the region amid Nato threats.

«The tighter Pridnestrovie will be squeezed, the stronger Russian positions will be. Until OGRF is deployed there, Russia is there. And trying to axe this knot by means of Nato forces is a very bad perspective because Russia will come to the defence with all available forces.» said Baranets.

The commentator also commented on Tiraspol's Victory Day festivities, noting that they showed one more time the unity of the Russian and Pridnestrovian peoples.

«I especially liked the integrity of Tiraspol's parade. This is a full-fledged Pridnestrovian-Russian parade which reflects our political, economic and military relations. It has shown Russia is still with Pridnestrovie and serves as a safety pin which no one will ever pull out. The heart of the Pridnestrovian people has become rooted to Russia, and so has the Russian people's heart, and nothing will be able to axe these ties," he said.

Russian public figure, writer and publicist Nikolay Starikov commented on the celebration of 9 May in Kishinev, saying that the introduction of American military hardware to Moldova ahead of the holiday was a specific signal and an element of pressure.

«This is a challenge to at least a half of Moldavian society who regard it as an insult. Any power interested in maintaining domestic stability would never hold military drills with the Americans, especially on the eve of 9 May. In this case, the demonstration of military hardware is a signal. That is why, it is no wonder that Pridnestrovie organises a joint parade. This symbolises Pridnestrovie's destiny as part of the Russian world and Customs Union," said Nikolay Starikov.

Commenting on the Pridnestrovian president's words about the desire to live in a common country, the Russian guest expressed confidence in the creation of a new geopolitical formation on the territory of the ex-USSR.

«It seems quite evident to me that sooner or later the whole post-Soviet territory will get united within a certain geopolitical formation which will ensure the survival of our nations, decent living standards and peaceful skies over our heads. I don't see any other way. Therefore, the Pridnestrovian president is obliged to take care of the prosperity of Pridnestrovian citizens, and a solution to the problems arisen in the territory of the Soviet Union destroyed by traitors lies in the restoration of geopolitical unity," concluded Starikov.
