Valerian Tulgara: arrival of NATO military hardware in Moldova may jeopardise peaceful resolution of Pridnestrovian conflict

The chair of the Union of Pridnestrovie's Moldavians has commented on the current Moldo-American military drills

Tiraspol, 4 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. «The arrival of NATO military hardware in Moldova from the territory of Romania is no more than a gross violation of Moldova's neutral status enshrined in its constitution and recognised by the international community. The demonstration of NATO armoured vehicles on Kishinev's central square on 9 May is spitting at the holly memory and sentiments of the people who lost relatives and loved ones during the Great Patriotic War who gifted us peace and freedom," believes the chair of the Union of Pridnestrovie's Moldavians, Valerian Tulgara.

He thinks it may also jeopardise a peaceful resolution of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian conflict.

«Moreover, it does not only constitute a threat to Moldovan citizens, but Pridnestrovie as a whole because it may again provoke tensions in the conflict zone and jeopardise a peaceful resolution of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian conflict," he commented.

He also underscored that amid such disturbing outer threats, «we, Pridnestrovians, should especially focus on solving domestic issues. We should drop insults, lies and unreasoned accusations.»

«There is plenty of time left until the start of the election campaign. And we must not use this time to sort out relations between branches of power, but find compromise solutions for the republic's survival in difficult socio-economic environment, aggravated by the unprecedented presence of NATO hardware in Moldova," said Tulgara.

Yesterday military drills Dragon Pioneer-2016 with the involvement of NATO units and Moldova's armed forces started at the NegreȘti military facility (40 km from Kishinev). About 200 soldiers of the 2nd US Cavalry Regiment and 165 Moldovan servicemen are engaged in the military drills which will continue until 20 May with a break for the co-called «display of military hardware» in Kishinev on 9 May, Victory Day. According to the media, nearly 200 combat vehicles are going to pass through the Moldovan capital.
