Tiraspol, April 12. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Tiraspol celebrates the 72nd anniversary of liberation of the city from Nazi invaders. According to the tradition, the activity program dedicated to this date began with the meeting-requiem «Honour to the fallen heroes! Honour to heroes living!» at the capital Memorial of Military Glory. The President Yevgeny Shevchuk, the Prime Minister Pavel Prokudin, the first President of the PMR Igor Smirnov, the members of the Supreme Council, the head of the Tiraspol and Dnestrovsk State Administration Andrew Bezbabchenko, representatives of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation in Pridnestrovie, representatives of the capital workforce, public organizations and citizens took part in the event.
On June 22, 1941, Hitlerite Germany attacked the Soviet Union. On August 10 of the same year, the enemy occupied Tiraspol. The occupation of the city lasted for 974 days and nights and claimed the lives of more than 4 thousand citizens.
«Dubossary, Grigoriopol, Tiraspol were liberated 72 years ago. As a result, all of the left-bank cities of the MSSR were liberated. Remembering the victims and the dead, I'd like to pay tribute to the veterans living today, to thank for everything that was done those years. I wish all Pridnestrovians success, good health, peaceful skies, so that horrors of war would never scorch the Pridnestrovian land," the President Evgeny Shevchuk noted at the meeting.
«We are immensely grateful to the fallen soldiers for the fact that they conquered the right to have a happy life for us and the peaceful skies over the head. May the memory of the fallen heroes live forever! Good health to the living," the Armed forces veteran, the retired lieutenant colonel in resignation, the chairman of the Tiraspol Armed Forces Veteran Council Committee Valery Glazkov emphasized.
In memory of the fallen in the days of the Great Patriotic War a minute's silence was observed. A flower-laying ceremony finished the meeting at the Memorial of Military Glory.
