Tiraspol, 28 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. President Yevgeny Shevchuk held a meeting with the government's leadership, finance and economic ministers and the chairman of the Pridnestrovian Republican Bank (PRB). The meeting focused on the current socio-economic situation, as well as proposals to review customs tariffs on a number of import goods, the president's press office reports.
It was also noted that the socio-economic situation remains difficult. The execution of the country's 2016 budget is being conducted in conditions of macroeconomic turbulence. According to official figures, the republican budget revenues has decreased by 13.5% as compared to the same period in 2015. According to preliminary data, the volume of foreign trade turnover has fallen by 27% over the past three months.
Special attention was given to the situation in the country's foreign exchange market. Thus, measures which the government and the PRB are planning to take to minimise the implications of the current situation in the foreign exchange market were discussed. Those present exchanged views on existing foreign currency purchase and sale mechanisms.
Following the discussion, the president signed a decree providing for the mandatory sale by exporters of 7% currency earnings. «In this way, the central bank is extending the list of its transactions in a foreign exchange auction. If foreign currency used to be exchanged for goods only, now this list also includes transportation and communication services," said the chairman of the PRB, Edward Kosovsky.
The decree comes into effect seven days after it official publication.
Today the president has revoked a decree of 3 March 2016, pursuant to which the PRB shall hold currency auctions only once a week.
