Tiraspol, 18 February. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. For two days Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University will host the Yakovlev Readings, dedicated this year to the enhancement of legislation and law enforcement. Scientists from Pridnestrovie, Russia and Moldova are taking part in the conference.

The president of Moldova's Association of International Law and director of the Institute for Strategic Research of the European University of Moldova, Prof Alexandru Burian, PhD, raised the question of international cooperation prospects amidst the reformation of the system of international relations from unipolar to multipolar.

«The US does not want to yield its huge sphere of influence. But new centres of force are emerging today. First of all, Russia and China. In this regard, there appear the so-called breaking points, Pridnestrovie, Moldova and to some extent Ukraine being one of them. Questions arise: what to do and where to go next? After 25 years of Pridnestrovie's existence the process of its international recognition has slowed down. And now a historical moment, which may have a decisive role, has come," said Alexandru Burian.

He highlighted a very difficult situation in Moldova, which affects Pridnestrovie.

«The situation is very tense in Moldova. It is interesting to watch the conduct of centres of force. The US, the EU and Romania have in fact recognised the Moldovan government. Questions arise: why did they do that and how will it influence the PMR? We need to figure it out on our own, first of all, at the level of international cooperation. And this important role belongs, among others, to universities. Your jurisprudence must comprise the legislations of other countries, including the EU, since we are in the situation when we have to collaborate with them," underscored Alexandru Burian.

According to him, Moldova needs to have good ties with both the East and the West.

«At present Moldova is the only state enjoying a visa-free status with the EU and the CIS and benefiting from free trade with the EU and the CIS, which makes Moldovan goods 20% cheaper than in other countries. But Moldova is not taking advantage of this situation. We should develop cooperation with Russia and the EU. Moldova and Pridnestrovie could be a bridge between Europe and Russia. At the same time, it is important to stay away from the US and Nato's sphere of influence. The cooperation between Pridnestrovie and Moldova is necessary to settle the situation," concluded the Moldovan expert, expressing hope that this PSU conference may help to bring the two countries' positions together.

The international scientific and practical conference Yakovlev Readings is taking place in Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University for the second time. It is organised by the Association of Law Universities of the Russian Federation and PSU's law department. The conference commemorates Vasily Nikitovich Yakovlev (1926−2013) — doctor of law, professor, honoured man of science of Moldova, honoured lawyer of the MSSR, academician of the International Slavic Academy of Science, Education, Arts and Culture, first rector of the Pridnestrovian university.
