Moldavkabel situation discussed by government

Tiraspol, 8 February. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The head of the government, Pavel Prokudin, held a working meeting with JSC Moldavkabel director Yunis Ragimov. They discussed the current negative situation at the export-oriented enterprise and proposals for its further stabilisation, the government's press office reports.

The plant director explained that in the past years the plant had to work at a loss due to the devaluation of the Russian rouble. Today almost all Moldavkabel products are virtually uncompetitive. Only 10% of all cables and conductors are imported to Russia. Among the main reasons the director singled out Russia's current import substitution programme, which is not applied to the Pridnestrovian enterprise.

With 47% of exports in 2013 and 19% in 2014, this year's figure is 5% so far. The plant is continuing to supply products to Moldova and Ukraine, but only 30% of products are sold in the domestic market, the loss of which is also very significant, said Yunis Ragimov. Unfortunately, according to the director, the enterprise is very concerned with the current trends when for different reasons local organisations prefer to buy foreign products instead of domestic.

«We use exceptionally quality materials to produce cables and are accountable for the end product. Since 1958 the Moldavkabel plant has provided all the electrical industry of Moldova and then Pridnestrovie, and we have not received any claim," underscored the director.

The legal act, which came into effect in summer 2015, regulating the export of the secondary material resources which are strategic was also discussed at the meeting. Pursuant to this document, Moldavkabel has been deprived of the right to export its own technological waste materials. According to the director, the plant has incurred significant losses in the past six months. Following the meeting, the prime minister gave instructions to amend the current governmental decree to grant this right to Moldavkabel.

«We all understand that the country is facing a difficult financial and economic situation. Now it is not advantageous for our exporters, but we are meeting the representatives of small, medium and big business, and trying to take measures to facilitate business operations. We are using all available resources to support our exporters," underscored Pavel Prokudin.

Following the meeting, the prime minister set a task before the plant's management: to summarise all proposals aimed to improve the enterprise's performance and send them to the government.
