President receives newly appointed Ukrainian ambassador to Moldova

The meeting took place at the initiative of the Ukrainian party

The Ukrainian diplomat commenced his duties on 21 September 2015. Yesterday the meeting took place at Ukraine's initiative.

In the course of the discussion the president informed the Ukrainian diplomats on urgent issues in the negotiations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. Yevgeny Shevchuk specially emphasised the prohibition for vehicles registered in Pridnestrovie to cross Moldo-Ukrainian border, pressure exerted on the Pridnestrovian economy and politically motivated criminal prosecution of Pridnestrovian citizens in Moldova.

The parties touched upon some key aspects of the ongoing negotiation process, where Ukraine is both a guarantor state and a mediator. Yevgeny Shevchuk highlighted the necessity for all 5+2 Talks participants to strictly abide by all agreements and commitments.

The president's press service also reports that very close consideration was given to a range of other issues of mutual interest, including the establishment of two-sided interaction between Pridnestrovie and Ukraine.

«The Ukrainian community has been expecting the appointment of a new ambassador. This is the important decision in resuming certain contacts with Ukraine's embassy on various problems, including Ukraine's participation in the 5+2 format and cooperation on the issues of mutual interest. Many ambiguities have recently accrued. We wish to cooperate and clarify them, build good neighbourly relations that would allow Pridnestrovian citizens to visit freely their relatives in Ukraine. We have always been adhering to good-neighbourliness and hope we'll have an understanding on these issues," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.

In his turn, Ukraine's ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Moldova, Ivan Gnatishin, claimed that he shares Yevgeny Shevchuk's opinion that «Ukraine as a guarantor state and a mediator must assume a certain role.» «And we are ready for that», said the ambassador.
