Pridnestrovie launches initiative to work out legal mechanism allowing PMR citizens deported from Moldova to return home

Today the Tiraspol office of the OSCE Mission hosted a meeting of Pridenstrovie's and Moldova's chief negotiators, Vitaliy Ignatyev and Victor Osipov.

Among others, the agenda included movement freedom issues and politically motivated criminal charges brought by Moldova against Pridnestrovie's public officials.

Following the meeting, Pridnestrovie's acting foreign minister, Vitaliy Ignatyev, said Pridnestrovie had launched an initiative to work out a legal mechanism that would allow the PMR residents who were deported from Moldova to return home.

«We are talking about concrete people. Moldova is aware of the issue. It has not been solved so far. Applying only Moldovan laws to these people is counterproductive. We suppose it is possible to find some compromise mechanism agreed at lawyers' level within the expert group providing legal and documentary support to the parties. If such a mechanism is elaborated, this will help to secure the rights and interests of concrete people," said Vitaliy Ignatyev.

The negotiators also discussed the problem of politically motivated criminal charges brought against Pridnestrovian officials in Moldova. Pridnestroive proposed to hold a special meeting of crime control experts in the soonest possible time.

According to Vitaliy Ignatyev, Moldovan officials, including experts and negotiators, have in fact kept themselves aloof from solving this issue.

«This is why we have proposed to the Moldovan party to organise a meeting of crime control experts who could discuss variants of solution to this problem. Besides, Pridnestrovie has put forward an initiative for chief negotiators to prepare the corresponding assignment. Unfortunately, Mr Osipov is not ready to respond to the possibility of this assignment, but we believe this assignment must be joint, concrete and have a predetermined time frame so that we could use the whole potential of the work of negotiators and expert groups to solve this problem," noted the diplomat.
