Deputy candidates involved in formation of district electoral commissions, audit reveals

Pridnestrovie' prosecutor has reported the facts of forgery when holding meetings for the nomination of candidates to district electoral commissions

Today the prosecutor of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Alexander Deli, held a news conference where he revealed facts of law violation when forming district electoral commissions (DEC) and misleading information reported by one media outlet on prosecutor's investigation into the process of forming DEC.

«Special attention should be given to the fact that some candidates have started the campaign before the registration, at the stage of forming electoral commissions," underscored Alexander Deli. «I consider it inadmissible to campaign while forming electoral commissions. Pridnestrovie's Prosecutor's Office is conducting an audit of observance of legality in the process of forming DEC. We have revealed that many district commissions were being formed by future candidates who at that moment were not registered, but tried to exert active influence on their composition. These facts have been documented.»

The prosecutor told journalists that during the audit prosecutors interviewed chairpersons and secretaries of residents' meetings at which candidates to electoral commissions were nominated. In particular, the interviews have revealed the discrepancy between actual dates of several residents' meetings and those indicated in their minutes. It has also been found that some chairpersons and secretaries of residents' meetings at which candidates to electoral commissions were nominated did not know about those meetings and even were away from Pridenstrovie, which is proved by border control stamps.

Alexander Deli noted that the very fact of conducting the lawful audit caused negative response from the TSV channel, which also made inappropriate comparisons.

«However, some registered media outlets drew an analogy between Pridnestrovie's Prosecutor's Office and NKVD, which abuse their authorities and put pressure on citizens. I will not tolerate such statements as the Prosecutor's Office has always been and is the most impartial," argued the prosecutor.

Alexander Deli also mentioned that his office will respond to every fact of bribing voters by registered candidates, as well as the facts of jobbery.

«Besides, I wish to recall that campaigning is forbidden for public authorities, members of electoral commissions, international organisations and mass media employees when carrying out their professional activities," said Alexander Deli.

«I also wish to focus on the fact that PR-technologies that often go beyond the law are now being employed in Pridnestrovie. I want to warn everyone, regardless of their political views and whose interests they represent, against employing PR-technologies that go counter to the law, which is subject to legal prosecution," concluded Alexander Deli.
