Konstantin Kosachev: Moldova's events may follow Ukrainian scenario

The chairman of the Federation Council international affairs committee noted that people of different political views - both pro-European and pro-Russian - are expressing disappointment over the present government

The chairman of the Federation Council international affairs committee, Konstantin Kosachev, does not exclude that the protests in Moldova may follow spontaneously or purposefully the scenario of the Kiev maidan, TASS reports.

The senator noted that people of different political views — both pro-European and pro-Russian — are expressing disappointment over the present government. «The people sincerely want changes and will not simply leave the square," he believes. This is why this confrontation may have three outcomes, added Kosachev — the authorities come to the people and make a peaceful agreement with them, «but there are signs of refusal of a dialogue on both sides»; the protesters' demands for re-elections are accepted, «but the latest elections were quite legitimate and the government is unlikely to give up; the third outcome may result in another «coloured revolution».

Taking into account the negative experience of the Kiev maidan, it may be assumed that one part of the population, standing for the Eurointegration, «will simply come across another pragmatic part," believes the parliamentarian. This may be the goal, he noted, of domestic or foreign participants in the Moldovan events: to explode the situation, following the Ukrainian scenario.

As a result, these participants want to solve several issues at once: to transform the Pridnestrovian conflict into a «hot» phase, achieve Russia's reaction and use it as a background for overcoming social division and securing pro-Western orientation with sort of a «Russians are coming!» horror story. «Strictly following the familiar Ukrainian patterns, which must have been found successful," underscored Kosachev.

The senator wished the Moldovan people to follow, first of all, its own interests: economic, humanitarian and political, «which do not counter to Russia's, whatever they may try to suggest to the Moldovan people.»

«Do not let anyone manipulate yourselves and use your sincere emotions in other people’s composed geopolitical games. Since the Middle East and Ukrainian experience shows that common people always lose in such games," concluded Kosachev.
