Pridnestrovie has imposed a seasonal customs duty on peach import ($0.25 per kg), which, according to the government's decision, will be in effect for two months.
This year's peach yield will near 700 tonnes, whereas Pridnestrovie's annual consumption of this fruit makes up approximately 400−450 tonnes.
According to the economic development minister, Alevtina Slinchenko, this year the volume of peach production «will fully satisfy the needs of Pridnestrovie's population and processing industry.»
«We imposed the seasonal customs duty last year as well. According to our estimates, it didn't cause any rise in price of the production in the domestic market," said the minister.
According to the minister of agriculture and natural resources, Andrey Kirsta, «the protection of domestic market is a common practice for all states.» «Our production cannot go to neighbouring markets, including Moldova's," added Andrey Kirsta.
The chairwoman of the government, in turn, called on the officials responsible for the implementation of the decision to monitor the situation with regard to the retail peach pricing.
