Ukraine's ex-minister of economy, Viktor Suslov, said in an interview to the magazine Politrussia that the decision to impose blockade on Pridnestrovie was wrong and declaring privatisation of Ukraine's sea ports against this background would result in budget losses.
According to Suslov, Pridnestrovie's blockade will cause additional tensions, which, in turn, will affect Ukraine's already low investment prospects.
As an example, the ex-minister quoted an investor who worded investment proposals of the Ukrainian government in the following way: «Ukraine is selling us flats in a house on fire.»
Suslov noted that the time for privatising South Ukrainian ports is very inappropriate and Ukraine's government is unlikely to obtain a good price.
«Today everyone is concerned over Pridnestrovie's blockade. It seems to have nothing to do with the ports, but it is causing such tensions that, if something breaks out there, it will be 'the right time' to privatise these ports. The price will fall even further. So it is difficult to understand the reason for creating another trouble spot in the already volatile region," said Suslov.
