«May 9, 1945 is a sacred day for the people of the Commonwealth of Independent States, it is one of the most significant and honoured dates. This day will forever remain a symbol of self-sacrifice and heroism for freedom and independence of our people, for saving of mankind from fascist enslavement," RIA Novosti quotes the text of the appealing.
Leaders of the CIS countries appealed to hold memory of the fallen in the fight against the fascism, to show constant care about preservation and maintenance of military burials, memorial complexes, monuments and obelisks, graves of partisans, members of underground and prisoners of fascist camps, and also to search the remains of the soldiers and the peace citizens who fell during the days of the Great Patriotic War.
«We highly appreciate courage of the European people and people of the whole world. They, together with us, showed resistance to Nazism, we remember the contribution and the help of our anti-Hitler coalition allies in achievement of our common victory," it is noted in the appealing.
Besides, leaders of the CIS appealed to the countries and people of the world to stand firm against glorification of Nazism, reanimation of fascism and dissemination of xenophobia and racism.
«We are strongly concerned seeing cynical intentions to forget the lessons of war, to give the perverse moral and legal assessments of its results, to equalize in rights the victims and the killers, to dishonour cherished memory of the fallen, to rehabilitate Nazi criminals and collaborators, to revive theories of racial and national superiority," it is emphasized in the appealing. «People of our countries suffered the heaviest human and material losses in that war. We appeal everybody to instill pride for the great heroic deeds of our people in fight against fascism in the younger generation».
