There was a meeting between the Pridnestrovie’s MFA Young Diplomats Council and the delegation of the Russian MFA MGIMO students and the National Research University “Higher School of Economics” in the foreign policy department
As the MFA Press Service reports, the Russian delegation was headed by the vice dean of the MGIMO Politology Faculty, Ph.D. in Politology Igor Okunev. The leadership of the MGIMO Geopolitical Research Centre and the NRU HSE Geoeconomic Policy Centre also were there.
The MGIMO representatives arrived in Pridnestrovie to study the actual social, economic and political situation over the republic and around it and also to establish the contacts between the young and the scientific communities of Pridnestrovie and Russia.
“We don't want to study the geopolitics sitting in the office or watching news only. We travel, socialize and discuss. As a result, we’ve come to the idea of visiting Pridnestrovie,” the delegation’s head Igor Okunev explained the visit purpose.
The Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Shornikov provided the guests with the actual information on Pridnestrovie’s present problems: the economic blockade from Moldova and Ukraine, the threat of the foreign political leverage and attempts to discredit Preidnestrovie at the media scene of Moldova, Ukraine and a number of the European countries.
The diplomat emphasized that the developing scientific, expert and public relations with the Russian Federation can help to overcome the most of the Pridnestrovie’s today challenges significantly. He appealed for more active cooperation development through the civic society so that the issues of Pridnestrovie were “at the edge” of the public attention. “If there would be a threat to the half a million Russia’s citizens living in Pridnestrovie, the informational and public support of Russia can become an additional guarantee of stability and regional security,” Igor Shornikov noted.
In conclusion, the attendees agreed to support and develop the working contacts established during the meeting.
