Pridnestrovie suggests holding extra consultations with 5+2 Talks participants

This is due to a number of unilateral actions taken by Moldova's leadership

The Pridnestrovian president, Yevgeny Shevchuk, said during a briefing for journalists that Pridnestrovie has had a number of issues which had not been resolved within the framework of both the 5+2 Talks and direct contacts.

To this end, according to the head of state, Pridnestrovie is likely to address the international partners with a request to postpone the Vienna consultations scheduled for 10-12 September.

"There are issues related to the fact that Moldova has begun criminal proceedings against some Pridnestrovian officials without giving reasons. We consider this at least unfriendly step is aimed at disorganising the atmosphere of the negotiation process," Yevgeny Shevchuk said.

Besides, Pridnestrovie cannot understand the Moldovan authorities' moves aimed at unleashing the so-called “telephone war.” In particular, the president said Moldova's communications service providers were allocated frequencies utilised by Pridnestrovie's providers.

"Pridnestrovie once gave serious consideration to the necessity of keeping communications in operating condition so that people could communicate. The Pridnestrovian service provider even bought a licence in Moldova. As a result, the licence was withdrawn, but money was not returned. Today these frequencies are used to unleash 'war' between mobile operators," the head of state commented on the current situation.

Besides, the president pointed to the fact that the signed agreement on Rybnitsa's cable road dismantling was not carried out for reasons undefined. According to Yevgeniy Shevchuk, Moldova's ministry of foreign affairs has created prerequisites for international isolation of Pridnestrovie.

"Our international partners have been signalling us in recent times that Moldova's foreign office is taking active actions to isolate Pridnestrovie internationally. Recommendations to avoid contacts with us are circulated to embassies. We are concerned over such contentious actions as they run counter the spirit of constructive interaction and the plans stated by Moldova's and Pridnestrovie's leadership," said the president.

Despite these facts and following the international partners' requests, Pridnestrovie's leadership "is creating prerequisites for 'Romanian' schools to work in the republic, for Moldova's agricultural producers to withdraw their production from Pridnestrovie's territory."

To this end, Yevgeny Shevchuk thinks it necessary to proceed to some other regime of consultations in order to address these issues and understand how the working groups, which are a key link in the negotiating process, operate.
