Pridnestrovie celebrating Republic Day

The flower-laying and national flag-raising ceremonies have given start to the celebrations in the capital

In Tiraspol the celebration of the 24th anniversary of the formation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic has begun with laying flowers to the graves of Pridnestrovie's defenders fallen in the Great Patriotic War, killed in action in Afghanistan and during Moldova's military aggression in 1990-1992.

As noted by President Shevchuk before laying flowers, "on these days we recall tragic pages of our history as well."

"Our compatriots defended their towns at the cost of their own lives against Romanian nationalists, firing upon the civilians. At the cost of their lives they have defended Pridnestrovie," underscored the president.

The head of state wished Pridnestrovians "to remember the feat of their compatriots, preserve peace and develop free Pridnestrovie. That's what our compatriots fought for," concluded Yevgeny Shevchuk.

Alongside with Pridnestrovie's leadership, the Russian delegation, including Russia's MPs, as well as delegations of South Osetia and Abkhazia took part in the flower-laying ceremony which was followed by the ceremony of hoisting the national flag.

The demonstration performance was shown by the Interior Ministry's and Defence Ministry's special forces at Tiraspol's central square.
