President says economy to face difficulties through Moldova's association with EU

The head of state replied to the reporters' questions during the press conference at the ParlamentskayaGazeta newspaper's press center

In the course of the press conference the President of Pridnestrovie focused on the challenges the economy will face as the result of Moldova's signing a treaty of association and free trade zone with the EU.

First of all, these are risks related to hard technical regulations and fixing quotas of certain products.

"Taking into account new regulations for  individual industries, the government won't be able to provide government assistance to the whole group of  enterprises because it can be regarded by the European partners as forming the conditions for dumping. Therefore, defense mechanisms are switched on," noted Yevgeniy Shevchuk.

According to him, when trading with the EU, Pridnestrovie may have some advantages related to reduction of some foreign trade taxes on agreed groups of products, but disadvantages prevail.

"But for considerable enhancement, Pridnestrovie's economy cannot function under new conditions," concluded Yevgeniy Shevchuk.
