Tiraspol Joint Museum hosting exhibition commemorating Kitskany Monastery's 150th anniversary

The items on display include more than 100 works by 63 authors. Among them are icons, painting and drawings

In February this year the Monastery of the Holy Ascension of Lord in New-Neamts celebrated its 150th  anniversary. On this occasion the first International Symposium of Artists and Icon Painters was organized.

The exhibition is a result of the Symposium and the Young Artist International Contest  entitled "The Holy Ascension of Lord in New-Neamts: past and present", which took place in the monastery on the eve of the Holy Ascension Day. The craftsmen from Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Byelorussia, Moldova, Pridnestrovie lived and worked for two weeks side by side with each other and the local monks.

The items on display include more than 100 works by 63 authors, including children's works. Among them are icons, painting and drawings performed in different styles.

"Professional artists' works are remarkable for their high professional level, integral composition and color gamma with prevailing saturated, joyous, summer tones. The icons on display, however, showcase Byzantine and Old Russian iconographic schemes verified by the centuries-old traditions. They feature a local style of drawing - its technology, colour, subject and canonicity," Liudmila Mironchuk, head of the art gallery, pointed out.

The exhibition’s opening ceremony was visited by the authors, representatives of the Tiraspol and Dubossary Diocese, city management, as well as connoisseurs.
