Tiraspol, January, 18. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Representative Office of Pridnestrovie has been successfully operating in the brotherly republic of Abkhazia for 12 years. The idea to open a diplomatic institution appeared in 2006. Then there were relevant agreements signed during the meeting of the two Presidents.

On January 18, 2007, by the Decree of the President of Pridnestrovie the representative office was established and began to function successfully.

At the first stage, the activity of the representative office was carried out on the basis of the Regional Public Organization Center for Cooperation Abkhazia-Pridnestrovie, registered in the authorized bodies of the Republic of Abkhazia.

In 2008, the representative office opened on the basis of a public organization was transformed into a full-fledged diplomatic institution. Astamur Kakalia was appointed the first representative of Pridnestrovie in Abkhazia. From August 31, 2009 to the present day, Harry Kupalba has been the head of the official Representative Office of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in the Republic of Abkhazia.

Every year dozens of Pridnestrovian citizens contact the representative office, mostly with a request to help with registration or sending them to study. There are also cases of applying with regard to the loss of documents.

The representative office also assists in organizing the visit of Pridnestrovian athletes to participate in various international tournaments held in the Republic of Abkhazia, in organizing trips of youth and creative teams both to Abkhazia and to Pridnestrovie.

On January 11, 2018, the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselski signed the law “On ratification of the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and the Republic of Abkhazia”. This agreement was concluded on September 29, 2017 during the official visit of the head of the Pridnestrovian state to Sukhum. Subsequently, it was ratified by the Supreme Council of the PMR on December 27, 2017.
