24 polling stations to be opened in Pridnestrovie during Russian presidential elections

The Union of Russian Communities are selecting candidates to work at precinct election commissions

Tiraspol, 9 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovie is preparing for Russia's presidential elections, the press service of the Central Election Commission (CEC) reports.

The head of Pridnestrovie's CEC, Yelena Gorodetskaya, held a working meeting in late December 2017 with the leadership of Russia's embassy to Moldova. The CEC instructed local commissions to monitor the readiness of the premises for voting. Local commissions have offered proposals for the premises in which polling stations are to be located.

According to Gorodetskaya, in connection with the high turnout of Pridnestrovain voters during Russia's parliamentary elections, the CEC has asked the Russian embassy to Moldova to open two more polling stations. This will facilitate the work of polling stations and reduce queues on the voting day. Thus, 24 polling stations are supposed to work on the voting day in Pridnestrovie.

The Union of Russian Communities is selecting candidates to work at precinct election commissions. In turn, the CEC plans to organise seminars for the members of these commissions.

A set of measures to inform the population about the elections is being worked out. These include special invitations, which will be delivered to mailboxes, posted and handed out in public places.

"This event will largely determine the life of our country for the next six years. Our further development depends on our activities, will and understanding of the importance of this event," noted Gorodetskaya.

The Russian presidential elections will take place on 18 March 2018. Russia's CEC stopped receiving registration documents from self-nominated candidates. Candidates nominated by political parties are to finish this procedure by 13 December.
