President and special representative of the OSCE chairperson-in-office discuss prospects for dialogue between PMR and Moldova

The head of state thanked Germany's chairperson-in-office for the efforts aimed at forming a climate of constructive work in the negotiation process

Tiraspol, 23 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. President Yevgeny Shevchuk held a meeting with a delegation of the special representative of the OSCE chairperson-in-office, Cord Meier-Klodt. The meeting focused on prospects for a dialogue between Pridnestrovie and Moldova within the negotiation process. The meeting was also attended by the acting foreign minister of the PMR, Vitaliy Ignatyev, and the head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Michael Scanlan.

During the meeting the president emphasised Pridnestrovie's readiness to promptly resolve the spectrum of relevant problems in the negotiation process.

The ambassador, in turn, noted that «The Permanent conference…» meeting in the 5+2 format, which took place on 2−3 June, was the first in two years and became possible thanks to the international mediators and observers. Cord Meier-Klodt also underscored that the meeting resulted in the protocol signed by all negotiation participants. «I do not know if it is a breakthrough, but this is an entirely different type of achievement. We had the subject to discuss. As a result, we managed to reflect our fierce discussion in the protocol," said the special representative. «This is just a beginning, and we still have much to do. But the beginning is successful. I'll do my best for the process to continue in this positive vein.»

The president thanked Germany's chairmanship for the efforts aimed at forming a constructive climate in the negotiation process. «We are feeling an additional impetus aimed at drafting solutions within expert working groups. But we are experiencing a shortage of coordinated, mutually beneficial draft solutions which could be submitted for definitive signature," said Yevgeny Shevchuk. «Today we have discussed the possibility of applying additional dynamics to the activities of working groups for working out more efficient draft solutions to, first of all, those problems that concern and worry our citizens, including the economy. This includes logistics issues, railway communication, criminal prosecution and eduction.»

The president expressed hope that the work of expert working groups will yield positive results in the near future, noting that this directly depends on the sides' position.
