Tiraspol, 28 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The situation concerning the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in Ukraine is under control of Pridnestrovian authorities. On 17 March Ukraine's chief veterinary department reported an outbreak of this disease in the Razdelnaya district, bordering on Pridnestrovie.

In order to prevent the penetration of the above virus into the republic, the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the State Customs Committee (SCC) have developed and are implementing a package of control and prophylactic measures, Pridnestrovie's SCC press service reports.

In particular, checkpoints on the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border are equipped with disinfectant barriers for vehicles coming from Ukraine. The customs authorities have toughened control to prevent the importation of goods, including citizens' hand luggage, fallen into the risk group and classified as prohibited imports.

As is specified by the SCC, the government's decree of 26 March has extended a list of such goods. It includes sausages and similar meat, blood products, finished meat products, including pelmeni [meat dumplings]. Both individual persons and sole traders are absolutely prohibited from importing them, including for personal use. Legal entities are prohibited to import the above products only from Ukraine's contaminated areas.

Enterprises and companies are permitted to import meat products from Ukraine's safe regions only in original packages and after 20-minute heat treatment at 70 °C, as well as forage and chemical and microbiological food supplements upon availability of a foreign trade contract or CIS veterinary certificate No. 2 or No.3.
