Tiraspol, 17 February. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Speaking at a board meeting of the Committee for State Security (KGB), President Yevgeny Shevchuk highlighted the lack of distinct and transparent legislative tools of combating expressions of extremism.
«We do not virtually combat extremism. We have a definition of extremism. In the meantime, social networks are full of extremist posts. Extremist expressions can be seen and heard in the mass media and during public events. Such expressions come within the provisions of the law. But the law does not provide for a tool or mechanism ensuring a rapid response to extremist expressions," noted the president, adding that there is no legal framework in Pridnestrovie regulating the internet.
The lack of responsibility, according to the president, «creates certain chaos, which is used by a small group of people for committing acts of information sabotage, organising targeted information leaks, which are financed to give an appearance of large-scale participation," reported the president's press office.
«There must be the golden mean. No one suggests restricting freedom of speech. It is difficult to determine the authorship of internet posts: various technical tools are used to hide the identity of persons expressing this or that position. I think if the person provides real personal data, we must praise it and encourage the freedom of any statements on any events. But when other people's photos and names are used, we have to eliminate the possibility of such sabotage leaks," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.
In this connection the president instructed KGB and the prosecutor's office to work out additional by-law measures to combat extremism.
«Practice has showed that destabilisation in any country starts from an information war, leaks and provocations. That is why, one of the main priorities for KGB and prosecutors in 2016 is the protection of the state's interests in the information space and control of extremism. If protection mechanisms do not work in the state, the forms of extremism will be further radicalised," concluded the president.
