Over 91,000 persons and entities purchase Pridnestrovian MTPL insurance policies

Tiraspol, 1 February. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. On 15 March 2015 a motor third-party liability (MTPL) insurance was introduced in Pridnestrovie following Presidential Decree № 26 of 30.01.2016 «On some specificities of the introduction of motor third-party liability insurance in the PMR».

Almost a year has passed and over this period ZAO SB-Universal Insurance Systems has sold 91,782 MTPL insurance policies to both Pridnestrovians and the citizens from 23 countries who were transiting the territory of our country.

As the acting director general of ZAO SB-Universal Insurance Systems, Vladimir Girzhul, told Novosti Pridnestrovya, 281 insurance cases were registered last year. A total of 1,457,015 roubles was paid to victims in 149 cases. In 2015, the insurance company paid 1,365,589 roubles in taxes to the republican and local budgets, including 760,265 roubles in MTPL tax payments,

«The average insurance payment was 9,778 roubles. In most cases damage was incurred in ordinary car accidents, when a driver lost control of the car and one car ran into another. There were cases when cars pulled down a fence, a post and a communication tower. Even a migration control booth at the Bendery customs checkpoint was bumped into several times," said Vladimir Girzhul.

The damage incurred in road accidents is estimated by independent experts at the Forensic Expertise Centre of the Interior Ministry. And the victim bears no extra costs, all of which are covered by the insurance company.

«The victim has the right to receive money or to have the damaged property repaired, be it a fence or a car. People prefer receiving money, however," said Vladimir Girzhul.

Now the insurers are considering 102 cases with estimated insurance payments amounting to 1.2 million roubles.

«We had over 10 insurance cases in Moldova. We had no difficulty in communicating with the Moldovan authorities and providing the necessary documents," underscored the SB-Universal Insurance Systems director.

In April 2015, a protocol agreement «On the mechanism of cooperation of insurance companies of the Republic of Moldova and Pridnestrovie on MTPL insurance policies», pursuant to which Pridnestrovie's car owners may cross the border with the Republic of Moldova and travel across the country with insurance policies issued in Pridnestrovie. In turn, all car owners who purchased policies from the Moldovan insurance companies that entered into the framework agreement with Pridnestrovie could drive across the Pridnestrovian territory without policies issued in Pridnestrovie.
