Yevgeny Shevchuk: Ministry of Internal Affairs one of most efficient and multifunction governmental units

The head of state attended the solemn meeting on the occasion of Militia Day

Following the tradition, flowers were laid at the monument to officers killed on duty.

The president noted that the maintenance of a public order is an important element in any state.

"That's what the protection of citizens' lawful rights and interests directly depends on. The influence of public order on economy is a significant element for any investor, economic agent and citizen," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.

It was emphasised at the meeting that despite the difficult foreign-policy and socio-economic situation, Pridnestrovie's law enforcement agencies managed to avoid aggravation of the criminal situation. The number of crimes had decreased by over 6%, and the crime detection rate had grown to 92% in the past year.

"It is no secret that as for the percentage of cases solved Pidnstrovie's Interior Ministry (MVD) units are more efficient when compared to Moldovan and Ukrainian colleagues even under such difficult conditions," underscored the president.

The head of state drew attention to the fact that there were certain issues related to limited funding of the ministry. In particular, the government could provide the funding of only 25% of MVD salaries. Over 70% of MVD vehicles were worn-out in service.

On that day the militia's car fleet was supplemented with three new service cars.

"Pridnestrovie's militia have always been in a very challenging situation, facing underfunding. At the same time, it is one of the most efficient governmental units. You make an invaluable contribution to the maintenance of a public order and stable environment for law enforcement," concluded the president.

The minister of internal affairs, Gennadiy Kuzmichyov, underscored that Militia Day had always been a general holiday.

"We will always remain people's militia. I wish you to remain close to people, who often put their final hopes on us, sympathise with them and live up to their expectations," said the minister.

At the end of the meeting distinguished officers were given high government and ministry awards.
