Tiraspol, December 12. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Government held a meeting with the heads of natural monopoly enterprises, as well as with those who provide the population with food. As reported by the press service of the Government of the PMR, the work in the event of a gas outage was discussed.
"We have worked out the issue with the Moldavskaya GRES that in the absence of gas, coal-fired electricity generation will be launched in an emergency mode. The volume of coal-fired electricity production is limited, of course. And it will be of an exclusively humanitarian nature. The announced period of 50 days is the period during which electricity will be generated for humanitarian needs and for the needs of enterprises that ensure food security in Pridnestrovie," Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Sergei Obolonik said.
Chairman of the PMR Government Alexander Rosenberg believes that it is necessary to prepare a plan taking into account the provision of the population with electricity, cold water supply and sanitation services. As for schools, they will most likely switch to online mode. And kindergartens will only work where it is possible to maintain the required temperature. The Prime Minister recalled that over the past few years, the state has allocated money from the republican budget to purchase generators for medical and social facilities. Work on installing alternative sources of heating and lighting will continue regardless of how the situation with gas supplies to the territory of Pridnestrovie develops.
"Currently, we are working on switching these boiler houses to solid fuel boilers as much as possible. In addition, other events related to providing vulnerable groups of the population, single citizens with food, heating, and so on, will be organized," the head of the Government added.
As for the provision of food, enterprises that are engaged in their production will receive electricity even in austerity mode. It is planned to draw up a schedule. Some production facilities may switch to a shorter work week or work night shifts so that household subscribers can consume electricity during the day.
"You have the relevant teams behind you. Of course, you need to think about how to provide them with wages, how to ensure the operability of the enterprise, to what extent you are equipped with alternative power sources to ensure the main production - this is bread, dairy products and all food products that are available under obligations to the budgetary sphere. In addition, we must provide electricity to all our vegetable storage facilities - this is important, I emphasize. All refrigeration chambers that store meat or other raw materials must also be provided with electricity," Alexander Rosenberg added.
Currently, the Government is working on drawing up not only work schedules for enterprises in case of a gas outage, but also finding out the volumes of products that can be manufactured for the population. Thus, the capital's bakery complex is equipped with ovens that run on electricity. This will allow the production of about 87 thousand loaves of bread per day. This will be enough to supply the entire republic. If necessary, the Bendery production facility will also be able to turn on its electric furnace. This situation is the same for almost all manufacturers..
During the meeting, it was also separately discussed that if gas supplies are cut off, exporting enterprises will not receive electricity. All resources will be directed to maintaining the situation within the country.
"The issue of having backup power sources is especially important. In the context of energy efficiency, I would like to recommend you consider this issue in the future," Sergey Obolonik added.
The situation will be discussed further. The Government will draw up a detailed and clear plan for how the country will live and work in the event of a gas supply cutoff.
Let us recall that the possibility of stopping gas supplies to the territory of the PMR from January 1, 2025 was discussed at a meeting of the Security Council under the President of the PMR on December 6. On December 11, the Supreme Council approved the Decree of President Vadim Krasnoselsky on the introduction of a state of emergency. The crisis situation with gas supplies to Pridnestrovie arose due to the lack of an agreement on gas transit from January 1, 2025. As Vadim Krasnoselsky noted, neither Russia nor Ukraine want to hinder gas supplies to Pridnestrovie. At the same time, the Moldovan authorities are unwilling to solve the problem that has arisen.
