The Memory of Alexander Nevsky was honored in Bendery

Pridnestrovians have a special respect for the memory of the faithful Prince Alexander Nevsky. A church bearing the name of the great Russian commander, canonized in the middle of the 16th century, has been restored on a historical site in Bendery. A park of the same name has been laid out there, in the center of which a bust of the statesman and military leader has been installed. Flowers were laid at the monument today. The ceremony is timed to coincide with a memorable date. The relics of the prince were transferred from Vladimir to St. Petersburg by decree of Peter I exactly three centuries ago, on September 12, 1724. This event is celebrated along with the birthday (June 5) and the date of remembrance (December 6) of Alexander Nevsky.

The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, the initiator of the revival of the Bendery church built in the first half of the 19th century, almost completely destroyed during the godless times and restored in the early 2000s, as well as the construction of the Alexander Nevsky Park, took part in the ceremonial event. Russian diplomat Oleg Vasnetsov with his wife arrived to honor the memory of the prince.

Archbishop Sawa of Tiraspol and Dubossary attended the event. Archbishop celebrates the day of his episcopal consecration today. The President congratulated the clergyman on the holiday, calling on him to continue serving God, people, the Orthodox Church and Pridnestrovie.
