The creation of Pridnestrovie was caused by the need to protect people on the banks of the Dniester, who in the late 1980s - early 1990s faced the rise of Nazism in Moldova. This was stated by PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, answering journalists' questions during the ceremonial events dedicated to the celebration of the 34th anniversary of the republic's formation.
"Our Pridnestrovian people in the late 80s - early 90s, at the time of the rampant Nazism on the territory of Moldova, found themselves outside the law, outside life, so to speak, - PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky noted. - Of course, people had to be simply saved, given the right to freedom, health and life." The head of state emphasized that the legality of the creation of the republic is based on international law.
Let us recall that in 1940, the Moldavian SSR was created by joining Bessarabia, liberated from Romanian occupation, to the Moldavian ASSR - the first republic in Pridnestrovie. In the late 80s - early 90s, the authorities of the MSSR, under the influence of nationalists, adopted laws on language that infringed on the rights of the residents of Pridnestrovie. In addition, on June 23, 1990, the Moldovan parliament also recognized the annexation of Bessarabia to the Moldavian ASSR as illegal. Based on this, on September 2, 1990, deputies of all levels from Pridnestrovie announced the creation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian SSR as part of the Soviet Union.
