Pridnestrovie is celebrating the Great Victory

Variety of colours revived today all Pridnestrovian memorials, monuments and burial places of defenders of the Fatherland. The Republic is celebrating Great Victory Day for the 79th time. Official celebrations dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 were opened by a traditional ceremony at the capital's Memorial of Glory. The leadership of the republic and the city, headed by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, walked from the building in which the legislative and executive authorities are located to the T-34-85 tank. The combat vehicle that towers over the memorial walked the military paths of the Great Patriotic War as part of the 7th Guards Mechanized Corps, liberating Moldova, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Hungary. It was shot down near Lake Balaton in the Budapest offensive operation. The commander, 20-year-old Boris Sergeev, died heroically on January 22, 1945 in Hungary. Junior lieutenant Sergeev was buried in a mass grave in Tiraspol at the insistence of the father, who personally found the body of his son and his comrade. The tank arrived in the city in April 1945. The monument under it, a capsule with soil brought from Mamayev Kurgan (Volgograd) was laid in 1968. Memorial complex was opened four years later, the T-34 became a significant component of which. The Eternal Flame was lit on February 23, 1972, at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, to which Pridnestrovians bring flowers. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky on behalf of the entire Pridnestrovian people after the traditional minute of silence laid a wreath of flowers to the undying symbol of eternal gratitude and inexhaustible memory today. A scattering of fresh flowers decorated and warmed the stone slabs with the names of the defenders who in different years gave their lives for peace on Pridnestrovians soil, as well as the pedestals of the monuments of the Tiraspol Memorial of Glory.
