Dedicated to the 106th anniversary of the fire department formation the ceremonial event was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The service dates back to April 17, 1918, when the Decree “On the organization of state measures to combat fire” was adopted in Soviet Russia. It was this document that played a significant role in the formation of the fire department and determined the development strategy for many years. A fire department was formed in Pridnestrovie under the PMR Internal Affairs Directorate after the USSR collapse in 1991. It included all divisions of cities and towns that came under the jurisdiction of the Republic. The department was reorganized into the Main Directorate for Emergency Situations in 2008. This has been the Fire Department of the Main Directorate for Emergency Situations since 2012.
The leadership of the republic, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Department of Emergency Situations took part in the ceremonial event. The President Vadim Krasnoselsky arrived to congratulate the employees and veterans of the fire service. Addressing those present, the President spoke about the important role of firefighters in the life of society and the heroism of people in this profession.
Firefighters fulfilled their official duty with honor during the repulsion of military aggression from Moldova in 1992. They responded to a fire under mortar and machine gun fire, risking their lives. Daily service in the units of the Fire Department involves a constant risk to life. Five employees died on duty in the entire history of the Pridnestrovian fire department. Flowers were laid in their memory.
The best employees and veterans of the service were presented with state awards for conscientious performance of official duties and high professionalism.
The fire department is a clear, well-coordinated unit, provided with qualified personnel, the necessary equipment and fire-fighting equipment today. Work is underway on a program to re-equip the fire fighting equipment fleet. 5 new fire trucks arrived in the republic for the holiday. The President handed the keys to them to the head of the Main Directorate for Emergency Situations, after which he was demonstrated the technical capabilities of the new machines.
