Vitaly Ignatiev: Negotiations with Moldova are degrading, the OSCE should become more active

Tiraspol is preparing practical proposals for the OSCE on security issues

Tiraspol, March 28. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The OSCE should take a more active position in the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian negotiations, because the process of regulating relations between Tiraspol and Chisinau, unfortunately, is degrading from year to year. This was stated in an interview with Radio 1 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev.

“For a long time we have been observing a certain passivity of the OSCE, and this does not help to normalize the situation,” said the head of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR. He recalled that only in the last year Moldova has created several new problems in relations with Pridnestrovie. This, in particular, blocking the import of medicines and foods, as well as the "law on separatism."

Vitaly Ignatiev stressed that the Pridnestrovian diplomacy today is acting in different directions in order to prevent the growth of tension in the region.

“We are working not only with the OSCE, but also with the UN, we are developing bilateral relations not only with Russia, but also with other states, including European ones, that would really like to see peace and security on the banks of the Dniester,” the minister said.

At the same time, according to him, the situation was further complicated by the terrorist attacks being prepared by the Security Service of Ukraine in February-March against the leadership of Pridnestrovie and representatives of the OSCE. These attacks, as we known, were prevented by the security agencies of the PMR, and the potential perpetrators were detained.

“I think everyone has noticed that we increased security measures for foreign delegations arriving in our country. We will do everything to ensure the safety of any diplomat,” Vitaly Ignatiev promised.

He added again that a terrorist attack against the OSCE representatives, if it took place, "could entail a whole cascade of negative consequences for both the dialogue and the peacekeeping operation in the first place." “It is no coincidence that these statements about the withdrawal from the 1992 Agreement arose in Moldova,” Ignatiev drew attention.

He stressed that the issues of regional security and personal protection of diplomats need further study. “We have certain practical proposals in our stock for intensifying cooperation with the OSCE. Now I can’t open the brackets yet, but I will note that there are quite serious plans,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie.

Recall that the peacekeeping mission under the auspices of Russia began on the Dniester in July 1992. This happened after the signing of a peace agreement that put an end to Moldova's armed aggression against Pridnestrovie. The peacekeeping operation, which has been going on in the region for more than three decades, is recognized by experts as one of the most successful in world practice.
