FC Sheriff remains in the Champions League

After their victory over the Slovenian Maribor, the team from Tiraspol is waiting for the game against the Czech Victoria

Tiraspol, July 27. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Football club Sheriff from Tiraspol reached the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League thanks to the victory over the Slovenian Maribor. In a two-legged tie, the Yellow-and-Blacks won the game with a minimum score of 1:0.

Things were settled the day before in the second leg. Following the UEFA decision, the game was held at Zimbru stadium in Chisinau. There were no goals in the first half. The starting phase was only remembered by the guests' hot attack, which was bravely put out by the goalkeeper from Tiraspol Abalora.

In the second half, Sheriff was winning out, as evidenced by the statistics: 9:1 on shots on target and 6:2 on corners. Stepan Tomas`s players had a lot of acute attacks. Akambi, Radelich, Badolo missed their chance to score first.

“In attack, we brought our new player Teyan. He needs adaptation. We hope he will help us. Indeed, there were many moments, but this is a new team, and we need time. The most important thing is that we did not miss a single ball in the four games we played,” Stepan Tomas, the head coach of the Tiraspol team commented.

Croatian coach`s casting brought results. Momo Yansane, who came off the substitutes' bench, put the Tiraspol team ahead - the Guinean attacker managed to hit the guests' gate two minutes before the end of regular time of the match.

“Congratulations to the players on their victory! The most important thing is that we have gone forward. In Maribor and Chisinau, we showed that as a team we are better than the Slovenes. Except they didn’t score on the road, but it worked out at home. I knew it would be hard. Maribor also played a draw in their first match with the Belarusian Shakhtar at home - 0:0, and then achieved victory on the road," the head coach of Sheriff Stepan Tomas said after the game.

In the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League, the Pridnestrovian club will meet the champion of the Czech Republic Victoria (Pilsen). The first game will take place on August 2 at the Zimbru stadium. Starting at 8:00 pm. The second leg will take place on August 9 in the Czech Republic.
