Moldova cuts Pridnestrovie off from itself - Alexey Pushkov

According to the Russian senator, the prospect of resolving the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian issue does not depend on negotiations, but on the balance of power in the region

Tiraspol, July 21. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Through its actions, official Chisinau cuts Pridnestrovie off from itself, Alexey Pushkov, Head of the Federation Council Committee on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media believes. The Russian senator stated this during the round table “Participation of the Russian Federation in the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie. 30 years of peace and stability in the region”.

According to Pushkov, Moldova itself is gradually cutting off Pridnestrovie from itself. This is due, among other things, to the separation of Moldova from the Russian information space, the member of the Federation Council believes.

“And it is clear that this is not a spontaneous process. This is a controlled process, controlled by the orders of the President of the country," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes Pushkov.

According to the senator, the Moldovan authorities are flirting with the idea of unification with Romania in one way or another. This is evidenced by the fact that almost everyone in the leadership of Moldova are Romanian citizens. Therefore, “we cannot pretend” that Moldova is “some kind of absolutely sovereign country,” the senator believes.

“I admit that they will not like my words in Chisinau. But ordinarly, the leaders of the state must be citizens of the country they lead. Of course, this raises questions, and this raises questions in Pridnestrovie, as they do not want to go that way,” Pushkov added.

According to the Russian senator, the prospect of resolving the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian issue does not depend on negotiations, but on the balance of power in the region.
