Runner from Tiraspol won Istanbul Marathon

Svetlana Shepeleva finished first in the age category 50-54

Tiraspol, November 8. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Svetlana Shepeleva from Tiraspol won gold at the Istanbul Marathon. The Pridnestrovian athlete covered the classic 42 km distance in 3 hours 19 minutes 12 seconds.

“It was a great race. Mass one. More than 20 thousand people participated in it. Of course, most of the participants started at a small distance of 15 km. I won in my age category and I am very happy,” Svetlana Shepeleva said.

The runner noted that the Istanbul Marathon was unusual this season: the organizers came up with the 10 Club for those who have run more than ten marathons. The Pridnestrovian athlete got into the Istanbul Marathon elite for participating in 16 Turkish races.

“To confirm their participation, it was necessary to collect all the medals, photograph them and send them to the organizers. Since I now live in Istanbul, my mother collected everything in Tiraspol and sent it to me. Before the start, I and other athletes were made members of the club, presented with club medals and certificates,” Svetlana Shepeleva said.

The 43rd Istanbul Marathon took place on 7 November. The Turkish race is the only transcontinental marathon in the world that takes place in both Europe and Asia. Svetlana Shepeleva started in Istanbul 16 times.
