Dedicated to the Great Victory Day events are taking place throughout the republic today. Flowers are laid at memorial complexes, monuments and graves of the Fatherland defenders. The main official celebrations of national scale are organized on the main square of the capital named after Alexander Suvorov. It was opened by traditional flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial of Glory in Tiraspol. The memory of the defenders who gave their lives for Motherland both during the Great Patriotic War and in other historical periods was honored with a minute of silence.

The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky lowered a memorial wreath to the Eternal Flame on behalf of the Pridnestrovian people and all grateful descendants. Vladimir Ivanovich Gromov, Alexey Ivanovich Zhdanov and Georgy Yakovlevich Panov, veterans of the Great Patriotic War arrived to the memorial in Tiraspol this significant day. The President personally greeted the heroes.

The first President of the PMR, Heads of the PMR Government and the Supreme Council, state authorities, local self-government bodies, the Tiraspol-Dubossary diocese, the command of the OGRV in Pridnestrovie and the peacekeeping contingents of Russia and the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic laid flowers and baskets to memorial plates. The family of the President took part in the event. Spring colors revived the stone slabs of the defenders' graves and the pedestals of the monuments of the memorial complex, created in Tiraspol in 1972, but which has changed noticeably over almost half a century. The deceased participants of the Second World War and the Civil War approximately a thousand people were initially buried at the Eternal Flame. 11 graves more appeared here in the early 1990s. Monuments to the Defender of Pridnestrovie and the Grieving Mother were erected later. The names of 804 heroes who gave their lives, repelling the aggression of Moldova in 2010, were immortalized on the memorial wall. There are monuments to the Soldier-Internationalist and liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl tragedy. All of them are Defenders of the Fatherland.
