Expert on the prospects for the recognition of Pridnestrovie: The process is already under way

Political expert Rostislav Ishchenko explained that that was purely political problem, while there are already precedents for its solution

Pridnestrovie sees prospects for its development, and the process of international recognition of the unrecognized states is already under way. Rostislav Ishchenko, reviewer of the Rossiya Segodnya International News Agency, talked about the problem of recognizing Pridnestrovie on the air of the information resource Ukraine.ru.

For Pridnestrovie, which has experienced great difficulties, but which lives somewhat more prosperous than Moldova and sees certain prospects for its development, joining Moldova is unnecessary, the expert notes.

The problem of recognizing Pridnestrovie is not so much in the sphere of international law at the moment. This problem is purely political, Ishchenko said.

“Back in the day, the new states that arose in the former post-Soviet space were not recognized by anyone, since the old Soviet republics were afraid to set precedents for the former Soviet republics` territorial disintegration. If you can divide one, you can also divide the other. In addition, the OSCE provision on the inviolability of post-war borders in Europe was in force (now formally in force, but not being implemented). That is, all this has been a factor maintaining stability within the entire European continent and even within the global system to a certain extent. Therefore, they tried not to touch this fragile balance, not to recognize new ones. But nothing lasts forever. Eventually, the United States had to recognize Kosovo. Then Russia recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia. It became clear that the process has already been under way,” the political expert said.
