In Chitcani’s museum to open exhibition dedicated to Isaiah Parfeluk

The First World War Hero organized Soviet spy network in Bessarabia

Slobodzeya district, February 10. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. An exhibition, dedicated to a Chitcani village native-born Isaiah Parfeluk, the First World War hero and a Soviet intelligence man, will open on February 11.

There are archival documents and personal photographs in the exhibition. They were collected by the legendary hero’s daughters from central military archives of Moscow, Odessa, Chisinau, Bendery and Tiraspol. All of them were donated to the village museum.

Isaiah’s military career began in the year of 1914 after completing non-commissioned courses. He was awarded with 13 orders for courage and bravery as well as and the award St. George’s weapon. At the front, he was the reconnaissance detachments commander, then the 55th Podolsk Infantry Regiment delegate commander. Moreover, Isaiah Parfeluk particularly distinguished himself during the Brusilov Offensive in 1916.

In October 1917, Isaiah Parfeluk took a side of the Soviet regime and fought in southern Ukraine. He headed the military spy agency residency on the territory of Bessarabia from the end of the year 1919

In 1937 Isaiah as an officer of the czar’s forces, in December 1941 was repressed and shot down. He was posthumously rehabilitated in 1971.
