Today is marked in the calendar of memorable dates as the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust. The leadership of the republic on this occasion laid flowers at the Tiraspol monument, built three years ago at the place where civilians were shot during the years of the German-Romanian occupation. The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky on behalf of the Pridnestrovian people lowered the carnations to the foot of the stone crowned with a six-pointed star.
“Humanity has experienced a lot of tragedies in the 20th century. In my opinion, this was the most difficult century in the history of mankind. People have gone through wars, revolutions, genocide - on various grounds: class, religious, national. We honored today, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust the memory of those killed - people who were killed during the Great Patriotic War, World War II, based on their nationality. This is a great tragedy, and not only of the Jewish people, but of all peoples. We bowed to this monument today and I perceive it as a symbol of the memory of the losses not only of the Jewish People, but of all mankind. It is very important to honor and remember. It would seem, what else is needed to come to the understanding that you cannot build peace by means of murder, violence, aggression? It seems to me, the 20th century proves it to normal people. We again see manifestations of Nazism and religious hostility, examples of conflicts associated with these phenomena, the murder of people in the 21st century unfortunately. It's sad. It is sad that you come to the understanding that people do not fully perceive the existing reality and cannot draw conclusions from the events taking place. What can we, little Pridnestrovie, oppose to these attacks of nationalists, racists and so on? Probably only memory. The memory of the innocent victims is honored in Pridnestrovie, and today we commemorate all those who died during the Holocaust. I am convinced that we can hope for a bright future only through repentance, through love for our neighbor. Nothing can be solved through aggression, through title, through the position that this or that land is only for one nationality, nothing can be built. Therefore, let's remember, let's honor and respect our loved ones, respect the people around us”, Vadim Krasnoselsky urged in his address at the end of the flower-laying ceremony.
It was decided not to hold a traditional commemorative meeting-requiem this year due to the ongoing pandemic, in order to ensure the safety of citizens.
