Equipment is being upgraded at Dubossary hydroelectric power plant

Hydraulic units are being switched to automation so that they work better and longer

Dubossary, November 9. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Work on the equipment upgrading continues at the Dubossary hydroelectric power plant. They are carried out by specialists from St. Petersburg as part of the enterprise investment program. These are scheduled works, which began at the plant at the beginning of this year, but were postponed due to the pandemic.

Now engineers from the Russian company have arrived in Dubossary again to complete what they had started.

“We are upgrading hydraulic units and regulating part, and also adjust active and reactive power in the group. 3 units have already been switched to new automation, and this week we will continue testing the 1st hydraulic unit. Further we will test all other regulators. The equipment at the plant is outdated, therefore it is necessary to carry out these works,” Maxim Bogdanov, the lead testing engineer of Rakurs-Engineering LLC, St. Petersburg said.

The upgrading of hydraulic units will increase the reliability of equipment being in operation for half a century, and ensure the safety of production processes at the hydroelectric power plant, experts say.

Recall: Dubossary hydroelectric power plant  celebrates its 65th anniversary this year. The first two units were put into operation in 1954, the other two a year later, and the plant started to produce its full planned capacity for generating electricity for its time: 40 megawatts.

“The plant is currently maintained in good technical condition. Despite the fact that the equipment is very old, all systems work, and we have integrated our new system with the existing automation. All inspections and tests have shown that the integration is going well enough,” Maxim Bogdanov stressed.

All work at the plant is planned to be completed by the end of November.
