Kamenka, August 25 ./Novosti Pridnestrovya/. In Kamenka, there took place the opening of a memorial sign in honor of the residents of the German Colony Antonettental (now the Antonovka subdistrict), the press service of the district state administration reports.
The idea of its installation belongs to the members of Voskresenie organisation and the Antonettental German community. It was registered in Kamenka eight years ago and now there are about 30 members there. Money for the memorial sign was collected by members of both communities, as well as descendants of the first settlers of the colony. Significant financial assistance was provided by the deputy of the Supreme Council of the PMR Valery Babchinetsky.
In July of this year, it was 215 years since the Wittgenstein bought Kamenka, and invited German immigrants to work on their estate. They arrived with their families and gradually formed the craft, agrarian and commercial class. They built a palace, set up a park and planted grapes on famous stone terraces. Thanks to their work, Kamenka literally in 10 years became a large trade and transport hub, and the estate of Count Wittgenstein became a multi-industry farm, famous not only for viticulture, but also for sheep breeding, factory horse breeding, industrial enterprises: wineries, distilleries and breweries, soap and wax-and-candle workshops, large mills.
The Germans founded their colony in Kamenka and named it after the Count wife Antonettental. Today Antonovka is a subdistrict of the city.
Not far from the new memorial sign there is a building under which the Wittgenstein family crypt is preserved. Next to it there is the German cemetery, where a chapel was built two years ago.
