Sabre with Nicholas II monogram was found in Stroiesti

Local founded it during renovating terrace support wall

Tiraspol, February 12./Novosti Pridnestrovya/. A sabre of Nicholas II (Emperor of the All-Russian in 1894-1917) times was founded in the village of Stroiesti, Ribnita district. According to the director of the local museum Rasina Vakar, it was found in the garden of a private house during the reconstruction of the terrace support wall. She told that the sabre had been buried in the masonry: the battle artefact was founded when the wall was completely dismantled.

Scabbard iron elements are well preserved. Corrosion has already affected the blade, while hilt elements of decoration are perfectly visible.

The top of ebonite handle is decorated with Nicholas II monogram. Now the sabre is stored in Stroiesti museum.

According to the characteristic of the hilt, it is similar to the Dragoon officer’s sabre of 1881-1909 model that has been mass-produced for cavalry units of the Russian army.

It is unknown, when and why the sabre was placed under the support wall of the terrace. There is no such story among legends of the village old residents. We can only assume that the sabre was hidden on purpose. In addition, there are many options, at what time. This could have happened both during the Russian Civil War (1918-1922) and long after it: retired officers of the royal army preferred not to advertise their military career in order to avoid dangerous consequences from the representatives of the Soviet government.

February 12 is considered the day of completion of the Civil War in Pridnestrovie. On this day in 1920, Tiraspol was occupied by Gregory Kotovsky cavalry brigade. The next day, Soviet Military Revolutionary Committee was established in the city. Events of the Civil War unfolded in Pridnestrovie from January 1918 to February 1920.
