Moscow documentary filmmakers make films about veterans in Pridnestrovie Two veterans of the Great Patriotic War from Tiraspol, Evdokia Danilevskaya and Vladimir Gromov, participate in the My War project

Tiraspol, February 12. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Film crew of the interregional public foundation Education in the Third Millennium arrived in Pridnestrovie from Moscow. Here, they are filming part of their project My War. Documentary filmmakers record the veterans` memoirs of the Great Patriotic War, of their military path. The Executive Director of the fund, Yulia Petrova, spoke in more detail about the project.

My War has been created for about 20 years. During this time, we recorded more than three hundred veterans. All of them took a form of documentaries. Many of them went on the air of the Central Television. They are stored in the state archive. These films are being circulated, distributed to youth and veteran organizations, to the administration of the places where veterans were filmed, to museums and archives,” Yulia Petrova said.

She noted that preserving the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War was the main goal of the project. According to the Executive Director of the fund, this is work for the future so that future generations can get reliable information about the exploit of our people.

“Who, if not veterans, will really tell us what happened. About those feelings which the huge country was actually fighting with face to face with such a powerful enemy as fascist Germany,” Yulia Petrova emphasized.

The project working group carefully prepares for every shoot and studies the veterans` biographies in order to speak in detail about their military and life paths in an interview. As a location the format of the film suggests iconic places for each of the regions where veterans live. These are museums with expositions about the Second World War, memorials and other memorable places.

Two veterans from Tiraspol participate in the My War project. These are Evdokia Danilevskaya and Vladimir Gromov. Their stories were filmed at the Tiraspol United Museum and at the Glory Memorial in the center of the capital. Julia Petrova noted that all veterans, including ours, were open people and made contact easily, wanting to share their memories.

Moscow film crew has been to Pridnestrovie for the first time. The documentary filmmakers say that they liked benevolence and openness of our republic`s inhabitants most of all.
