PMR’s MFA: The final model of building relations with Moldova should be determined by the Pridnestrovian people

At the referendum of 2006 Pridnestrovians chose the path of independence and unity with the Russian Federation

Tiraspol, November 19. / Novosti Pridnestrovia/. The PMR foreign Ministry commented on the statements about the history and prospects of settlement of the conflict between Moldova and Pridnestrovie by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov.

During a video conference at the Sputnik Moldova press center, the Russian Senator said that the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict should be resolved by two sides – Tiraspol and Chisinau. However, according to Dzhabarov, the parties should agree and create a country "with a single border with free movement of goods."

At the same time, the Senator believes that the opinion of the people should be asked on this issue. As Dzhabarov noted, a new generation has grown up on both sides, which may not know about past confrontations.

Commenting on the Senator's statement, the PMR foreign Ministry noted that the armed aggression of Moldova in 1990-1992 claimed the lives of more than 800 Pridnestrovians. The foreign Ministry reminded that in the referendum of 2006 Pridnestrovians has chosen the path of independence and unity with the Russian Federation. This path has become the only possible in the conditions of blocking by Chisinau of Russian initiatives in the settlement, the destruction of the international negotiating mechanism and the economic blockade, the PMR foreign Ministry stressed.

The diplomatic Department stated that today Moldova not only didn’t not fulfill its obligations, but also took new restrictive measures against Pridnestrovie.

"It is no secret that recently the situation in the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement has deteriorated significantly due to Moldova's failure to implement the previously reached agreements, refusal to sign the final Protocol of the 5+2 format meeting in Bratislava, as well as due to the creation of new problems in the banking sector, in the field of import of goods and in land use," the commentary says.

The Ministry expressed the hope that the attention of officials of the Russian Federation to the current situation in the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian relations wpuld contribute to solving the complex of current problems that limit the implementation of the rights and interests of Pridnestrovians, including more than 220 thousand citizens of Russia.

The foreign Ministry also welcomed the Russian Senator's understanding of the fact that new generations of citizens have grown up in the PMR and the RM, who have been living separately for three decades.

"It is the concern for future generations that pushed Pridnestrovians to defend their freedom, fight for legitimate rights and self-determination. Therefore, there can be no doubt that the final model of building relationships with Moldova should be determined by the Pridnestrovian people, " the PMR’s foreign Ministry concluded.
