Bendery, October 29. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Bendery Fortress will be restored. Preparatory works have already begun. Experts from Italy study the condition of the fortress using special equipment. Ground-penetrating radar helps to see through walls and understand what condition they are.
“The Berlucci Studio company won the competition for a complete structural analysis and the preparation of technical specifications for the restoration of the citadel and its structures. Work began in September, Italian experts came to us three times, they made a full scan of all walls and structures of the citadel, as well as the surrounding area and soil. This will help to draw up the most accurate and complete plan project of the entire fortress state,” Alexander Yaskov, Director of the Bendery Fortress said.
Upon completion of the scan, 3D model of the fortress will be compiled. It will allow them to see the full relief of the walls from different angles, understand the composition of the foundation, find out the walls and towers thickness. In a word, it will give a complete picture of the state of the fortress and its structures. It will also help find voids under the fortress and understand where the most vulnerable places are.
“As the ground-penetrating radar showed, near the corner tower, there is an underground passage that leads towards the lower terrace, according to our assumptions. It will be pitted, samples of the foundation will be taken. The Italians outlined 4 sites on the territory of the fortress, in which it is necessary to conduct a pit to find out what condition the foundation is in now. This is necessary in order to understand how to continue the reconstruction process,” Alexander Yaskov explained.
The work is carried out through one of the UN development programs in the framework of preserving the cultural and historical heritage. Part of the funding has already begun, this will help to start the process of preserving some elements of the fortress. These are places where there are already visible damage, cracks, etc. The program will last until approximately 2021. And already after receiving a full technical project on the state of the fortress, the next tender will be announced for direct restoration work.
