Together with Russia

13 years ago the Pridnestrovians voted for PMR independence and accession to Russia

Tiraspol, September 17. / Novosti Pridnestrovya /. This day in 2006 the seventh referendum took place in Pridnestrovie. 97.2% of its participants supported independence and accession to Russia (the voter turnout 78.6%).

The will of the people became a confirmation of the course chosen in the early nineties. Earlier the Pridnestrovians had already supported the independence of the state twice – in the referendum since December 1989 to December 1990 on which they supported the creation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian SSR. On the referendum on December 1 in 1991, the people voted for the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic independence.

79% of residents of the former MSSR left-bank regions and Bendery from which 95.8% supported the new federal republic creation took part in the first of them.  78% of the republic inhabitants who had the right to vote participated in the referendum on December 1 in 1991. 97.7% supported the PMR independence.

The Russian Federation State Duma recognized the referendum results of 2006 in Pridnestrovie.

«The State Duma believes that the Russian Federation has to build the policy taking into account free will of the Pridnestrovians», - it is said in the statement of the State Duma «About results of the referendum in Pridnestrovie on September 17, 2006».

In the document, it is said that this referendum took place in full accordance with the international law precepts and the legislation of Pridnestrovie.

«Referendum results in Pridnestrovie have to be fully considered by the international community for the sake of ensuring the rights of the person, peace and safety in this region and fair permission of the conflict», - it is emphasized in the Russian Federation State Duma resolution of October 6, 2006.

Strengthening of independence with a reference point on finding the international recognition and the referendum realization of 2006 results is one of three basic elements of the PMR state ideology. It is reflected also in the PMR Development strategy for 2019-2026.
