Tiraspol, September, 16. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. From September 13 to 15, in the Bulgarian city Samokov there was held the WTF Taekwondo Championship of the Balkan countries - the Olympic version of this sport. 653 athletes from twelve countries took part in it.
The candidate for master of sports, Tiraspol citizen Dmitry Shulyak, who is trained by the honored coach of the PMR Yuri Lesovoy participated as a member of the Moldovan national team. The Pridnestrovian athlete performed in the weight category up to 68 kilograms, according to the website of the PMR State Sports Service. 9 participants were announced in it, and Dmitry had a chance to perform 4 difficult and responsible matches.
At the stage of the 1/8 finals, in his first duel, Dmitry Shulyak confidently defeated fighter from Bosnia, with a score of 12: 8. Then he defeated an athlete from Northern Macedonia. The final result was 18:10 in favor of the Pridnestrovian fighter.
Semi-final duel against Romanian Simon Shabolch appeared to be easy for a Tiraspol resident. The victory with a clear advantage of 22: 8 opened the way to the final.
The prize fight turned out to be the most difficult and tense for Dmitry Shulyak. The Bulgarian competitor Christian Veselinov performed in his native country, and the audience was rooting for their compatriot with all the passion and excitement. However, having overcome all obstacles, the Pridnestrovian fighter pulled out a victory with a score of 11:10 and became not only the winner of the fight, but the winner of the whole championship in his weight.
This is the first Dmitry Shulyak`s prestigious award at the official international tournament of such a high rank. It gives him the right to bestow the title PMR Master of Sports.
